A street whose identity had long been shaped by rows of aluminum workshops became the ground for a critical rethinking of the contemporary commercial complex. Through a collective approach rooted in the consensus of a single trade, the project transforms a fragmented pattern of activities into a unified and coherent spatial system.
Rather than expanding upward and adding layers above the city, the design proposes a deliberate movement into the ground—an architectural decision that preserves the scale and character of the street while generating a new spatial experience with increased economic efficiency.
The street level is dedicated to showrooms, organized along circulation paths that establish visual continuity between units while ensuring quick access and maintaining the independent identity of each shop—recalling the spatial logic and rhythm of traditional bazaar alleys. Above, a roofscape is conceived not merely as a building element, but as an active public realm: a civic platform capable of remaining alive even during periods when the commercial functions below are inactive.
Beneath the surface, a multilayered structure accommodates workshops, storage spaces, parking, and essential service areas, forming an integrated infrastructural system that supports both the functional and economic demands of the complex.
This vertical organization embodies a contemporary reinterpretation of the sara—a typology rooted in collective memory—where the rhythm of the past is preserved and reconnected with future needs. Here, architecture is not understood as a mere act of addition to the city, but as a process of continuity, transformation, and care.
By aligning form and function, respecting the existing urban fabric, and activating multiple layers of social and economic interaction, the project demonstrates how architecture can simultaneously respond to present-day requirements and extend the enduring narrative of the city—becoming part of its lasting identity.
